Yes there is lava, but there's the tiniest layer of water above it which makes it invisible, just very dark ground.

Bit weird about the meteor, that hadn't happened to me yet o.O Then again, people tend to find the most strangest glitches in my adventures..

I don't think the laws of thermodynamics are included in spore.
