and Vek is right folks Avatar though a good movie the SFX are riped from films like Jurasic Park the Incredables etc all good movies just obvious ones

I noticed that too.

I was like "Hey, isn't that the T-Rex roar from JP?"

I also noticed a slight bit of Spinosaurus from JP3.

There is a stock scream that has been used in countless films, it is now, I am led to believe, an industry in joke. It is apparently in films where the scream does not even make sense being there Laughing

I have never seen Pocahontas Surprised

however, I saw the following films in Avatar

Jurassic Park : Sound mainly, but a few other ideas rang ture. The Thanator uses the T. rex soundbank and the horse creatures used the Voliciraptor soundbank.
Star Trek: Insurrection : They were gonna destroy an entire peoples for a resource (mind you, Insurrection was not the first, Human History was for that one).
The Matrix Revolutions : The vehicles reminded me a lot of several Matrix ones.

I even saw some stuff that I recognised from Video Games, the very beginning reminded my of Freelancer with the pods in a massive spaceship, but a Doctor Who episode and a the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy had that idea.

Don't get me wrong, I think Avatar is an amazing movie, I just don't give iut credit for advancing the genre or advancing the techniques involved. Hell it reminded me a lot of some of the ideas in lord of Rings. The creatures reminded me a lot of stuff from various Myths and Legends of the Classical world.

Um... Vek about 70% of films do that you know. The sound effects are reused throughout cinema, and that classic scream is only the most famous example. The JP roar has been used in films that are older than the JP series.

The animal sounds were first used in JP. They made them by combining the sounds of animals alive today - these sounds were stock sounds however. The team just combined stock ones to create new ones.

Lion + Elephant = Tyrannosaurus rex

But yeah, I am aware that most films use stock effects. The way Avatar was hyped, I was dissapointed that it felt like using JP effects for it's animals.

I wasn't too keen on how with several of the creature just looked like creatures from earth but with an extra pair of limbs... although the Thantor design was a bit of an exception to this

I care little for the storyline in the case of Avatar; I was more concerned with the actual universe they set it in, and how much of it was possible.

The result is intriguing.
