Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part One, in my opinion one of the best in the series as it had a lot of emotion. I'm going to see Part Two tomorrow.

Battle Los Angeles (2011) was actually better than I expected. Okay, here we have annoying characters you're glad to see die, tv channels that never stop broadcasting, naive and superficial ecological messages, and the Americans saving the world once again a la Independence Day. Watch it if you like explosions. 1.5/5

Last Rites (Video 2006), a low budget zombie-survival movie.

Was all right for its kind. Not suitable for a movie theatre but decent for a Saturday evening at home.

I saw The Smurfs. It started great but then turned into a pseudo version of Enchanted and the 10th Kingdom, but luckily Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays saved the film with their portrayal of a loving, reasonable couple living in crazy NYC.

I've been watching the full Star Wars series these last days. (I've seen them before, though) Currently going on the fifth. Razz

I think they're all cool movies. Don't really understand why most people think the most recent ones (The first, the second and the third) are worse. They all seem quite good to me. Of course the oldie ones' graphics are not that good but they were excellent for the time they were made.

I just saw Rise of the Planet of Apes (2011), and it was very very disappointing. Looks like the people of the franchise still don't have any decent way of concluding the series and instead choose the easy way ("rise"). The first part of the movie was more like a generic accusation of humans and their genetics experiments, then after that a wildly unrealistic march for freedom of the apes. And by "unrealistic", I'm not talking about monkeys opening their mouths and talking. Not really memorable. 1/5
Another thing about this movie is that this is like 300, but with apes. Mild spoilers here:

Spoiler:

- The apes' leader, Ceasar, sounds EXACTLY like Leonidas. Especially when he says "NOOOOOOoooo"
- When they are at the bridge and they see cops ahead, he raises his hand and orders them to keep at a distance, much like what happened with the Persians.
-When they escape and roam in town, they grab pieces of metal fences and use them as spears... which they throw at rather unreal distances. Where have we seen this before?
- In the bridge, an ape kicks a crashed helicopter to the sea (in it is the bad guy). It could have been much easier to use his hands of course, but that's not what happened in 300.
- The apes appear to be around 300 in number.

Sounds like Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1971) but with a different premise.

I have seen many remakes of classic or original movies, and I must say they are all appalling in comparison.

I saw Bad Teacher. Take Dangerous Minds, shake it really, really hard, throw in some bad ass and you've got a solid comedy. Cameron Diaz did a great job and so did her co-stars - even snooze ball Timberlake.

-------------------------
I prefer the original to the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. With the limited technology, George Lucas was better able to tell a story. Once he had all the circus of special effects, the story went under, especially using a bunch of overrated actors.

I don't think the acting in the old ones is much better. Han Solo seems overly fake and Luke's acting, since he's supposed to be younger than what he appears to be (at least in the IV), looks weird, especially when he's playing with a model spaceship.

It's great with Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers because we can't see their faces, lol.

I didn't say the acting was stellar, but when you have props and sets to react to you get a more realistic performance than acting with nothing on green screens.

And the orignal bast had better chemistry.

The other thing that makes the original trilogy better is that everyone was pretty much new to film and was working hard to making it appear professional with the limited experience, funding and special effects at the time.

The script for Attack of the Clones is pretty poor though... Neutral
And Hayden Christensen is so wooden, his voice sounds wrong once he's in the Darth Vader costume as well Razz
Mind you Darth Maul is just too cool as a bad guy Cool

One thing that bugs me a little about the whole Star Wars franchise is the games...the ones where you get to be a Jedi, like Force Unleashed, the character's force powers are ridiculous, and make the powers of Yoda and the Emperor in the films look pathetic Razz

That pretty much sums up the prequels.

I haven't watched the SW movies in a long time. The scene I posted showing the fight between Yoda and the Emperor and Obi-Wan and Anakin pretty much gave me enough to laugh reminisce about the films for a while.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was quite nice and well made. Good story, interesting monkey interactions and the graphics were very good. I'm glad I went to see it today.

Casino Jack (2011) was pretty good. Based on a true story, it seems, but it feels like we've seen other movies with the same motif. 2.5/5
