Social Etiquette

Post by Andeavor on Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:27 am

Tonight, I was invited to a dinner and during the evening, both hosts had the bad habit of entering the room and taking over the conversation without regard of their guests' conversations. It's not like they're unlikable but this is something that effs me off big time since I don't do that, unfortunately, I've never had the impulse to mention that.

Not only that, I've noticed a lot of rude behavior from people answering their phones while in company or otherwise sharing their side of the conversation with everyone in vicinity. I understand if it's an important call but keep your boasting to your private quarters.

What are your personal vices regarding etiquette and how do you deal with them?

I hate to be interrupted, or seeing someone be interrupted, by someone else while I am, or they are, already engaged in a complete different conversation. I deal with it in different ways. Sometimes, I just stay quiet and ignore it. Other times, I tell them to wait/stop because it's just annoying and rude.

It is also quite annoying to speak with someone and that person is nodding and acknowledging, yet are not paying any attention at all to what is being said.

I know we all have flaws, but those are some that I truly dislike.

Yes, being inturrupted is one of my annoyances, as is watching it happen. Somtimes I let it go because it's not that bigger deal but other times I will stop the person and point out how rude they were.

Another one of my big bugbears is people barging or just generally being ill mannered about space. I hate when you are coming out of a doorway or up a hall or staircase and someone will barge past you. They could've just waited.

People who scratch their heads are a big no no for me. I simply ask if they're nervous and they usually stop Razz

Scratching heads? Laughing Seems a bit of an odd dislike, but thinking about it, it is yuk when you are next to someone that's scratching away at their noggin!
