Top Ten

#10: iPad
#09: Apple Peeler
#08: Ballpoint Pen
#07: Telephone
#06: Laptop
#05: Typewriter
#04: Television
#03: iPod
#02: Wristwatch
#01: Lighter

Now, I am not one to criticise Mr. Fry, but the iPod (or MP3, MP4, Digital Music Player) should not be in the top ten... it has not advanced society, and does not use technology that wasn't already invented. With the exception of the Apple Peeler, though, I agree with the rest of the top ten. I am not sure what i would replace those two with on the list though.

lol love that apple peeler beat the ipad Razz And I agree that the ipad/ipod shouldn't be near the top, the ipad in particular.

In terms of usefulness to society and what had the greatest impact, I'd have put the telephone as number 1.

hmmm.... I understand why, but it does make smoking easier, which is bad. Not sure what I'd put at Number 1, probably the Laptop or Ballpoint pen.

I think the greatest gadget of all time is the smart phone because it has brought together the telephone, the internet and social networking on the go, immobilizing masses of people on a global scale and removing them one step away from reality.

I'd agree with Telephone, as it really paved the way for modern communication. Without it, the world would have continued to move at a much slower pace.

I don't think both the iPod and the iPad should be on the list. I mean I have a mac but they're almost pretty much the same thing so having them both on there seems kind of pointless to me.

Down to basics, iPad is a laptop with no physical keyboard or mouse. iPod is just an advancement on the Walkman...

I'd happily uninvent the Mlobile Phone.

The iPad is (as has been pointed out - a tech journalist on the prog said the same thing) an inferior laptop.

The iPod was the first of it's type, but I know many people who think other devices of that type are better - besides, it is just what the Walkman became (as jokie said).

The Lighter is fantastic, if you ignore the fact that 99% of them are used to drastically change the chances of what people die of. It does, however, represent was is technically the most primal and oldest gadget known to man (the manipulation of fire).

I was disappointed in the lack of music gadgets, yeah the iPod and Karaoke Machine made it, but neither makes music, just plays it. No Keyboard was mentioned for instance.

In terms of music production, I would have said the drum. It has been around since recorded history began, and probably well before that. It has taken several forms, and served several purposes. People's lives have depended on it, and yet it has been overlooked.

Drum is good, it was used as an expression of rhythm and music as well as a warning signal.

Let's not forget the piano also played a large part in the musical world.
