Tips on learning a new language?
Since I have alot more free time and I feel that my mind is rotting from doing nothing useful, I have strongly considered learning another language. Looking at them now, I feel like a couple of them look pretty fun and rewarding to learn (well all of them are rewarding anyway)
Does anyone have any tips that would be handy for when I do start learning another language?

I'm interested in this too After being made to study French and German (at the same time) at school, I was seriously struggling.

Practice makes better. You may not get perfect from practising, but the more you practice, the more you remember. Eventually you'll get so good, you can easily translate the language you learnt in a split second.

Yeah, I was an absolute Epic fail at French and Spanish. Luckily, I didn't have to do either of them after year 9 ended.
But now I want to learn a language

Quote for truth. It may take me a very long time, but I am willing to learn and practise.

I´m going to start learning German soon.
Make sure you enjoy it. Practice a lot. Do exercises. Speak the language out loud.
Try calling objects by their names in the new language instead of your own. Try translatting small texts and then read them out loud.
Also it´s best if you have a teacher or someone [ or something (a Computer Language Learning Program, for example)], guiding you through the learning process.
The best way to learn a language is to live in the country where it´s spoken, but that´s harder to do

And Luckily some Spanish is very similar to some Romanian (my language), which is why I am pretty good at it in class.

I'm learning Spanish in school, and my report card would be straight A pluses if I didn't get an A minus in it. Compared to some people, I epicly fail at it. Well, everyone in my school does because nobody ever studies.

I can't take languages until High School. I'm in band and Jazz Band this year so I have no more elective spots available until High School.

Exactly and living in Europe it's a blessing we have so many languages available in the EU.Arkanay wrote:The best way to learn a language is to live in the country where it´s spoken, but that´s harder to do
Another tip is to listen to music or watch movies in said language (original, not translated) and learn conversational phrases every day, next to 5 or 10 words.
I would also label everything around the house with post-its and keep saying what your're going to do or use in that language... in case anybody asks. I know you may look funny walking around the house speaking in foreign tongues but once you think it you're more than halfway there.
The moment you automatically think in another language, you will have nearly mastered it.
