*Massive list*
Thats alot of songs. Though I can't recall many of the songs from that list, I will agree with you about the Age of Mythology intro music. That song is epic
Re: What's Your Favorite Video Game Music/Theme?
I am the opposite of a fan for both Sonic and Mario, so not heard any of them, but it is always a shock to me how music found in Video Games is amazing - an overlooked area if you ask me. Along with Jim Johnston of the WWE, Video Game music composer deserve more recognition, just because they haven't written a top ten hit or composed a piece of classical music - or the soundtrack to the latest blockbuster, they get ignored.

You seem to be quite the Sonic fan.
Anyhow, I've changed my favorite since starting this topic.
Epic. Just epic.

Sonic has become overrated to the point of 'tool' status. Nowhere near what he came from.
Anyway
Anything Nobuo Uematsu is pretty dam impressive.

From the game Evil Genius, which is btw the most awesome game ever. Loved everything about it: gameplay, graphics, jokes, music, even the little moviescenes that play when you look in the menus.

Hearing this song always was one of the best parts about launching Civ IV ^^ I would often remain in the main menu until I had listened through it. I think the music in general in the game is a lot better than in Civ V.

Re: What's Your Favorite Video Game Music/Theme?
My favorite music would undoubtably be from my favorite game Okami for the PS2/Wii. Based off of Ancient Japanese Mythology, this is a game that stands out above all and is one I will never forget. Not much that can be complained about it other than ball pushing physics, occasional freezes, and heavy dialogue(I personally liked that part though). Playing as the goddess of the sun, Amaterasu, in the form of a wolf or "okami", okami can translate to 大(O=Big, Great), 神(Kami=God),
狼(Okami=wolf).
Basicly the plot of the game is that the legendary sword preventing the great 8-headed beast Yamata No Orochi from entering the land of mortals, is removed from it's shrine by an unknown man. Choas spreads faster than light as the curse eats it's way over the lands, the only place protected is Kamiki Village home to a statue of the great goddess Amaterasu. Soon brought out of slumber by the patron spirit of the village. The rest you'll need to find out on your own.
This game is unquestionably worth the 18-20 hours of gameplay, not to mention the sequal Okamiden.
But enough of my silly rant.
EDIT: Silly me, did I forget to brag about how Ōkami has been voted to appear in the Smithsonian Art Museum exhibit for video games of the 5th era! The exhibit is set to run from March 16, 2012 through September 30, 2012

- Spoiler:
- My favorite is a toss up between these two themes from the same game, Okami.
Emperor of Eternal Darkness:Begns to get good 0:43 into it.
The Sun Rises:Epic the full way through.

Re: What's Your Favorite Video Game Music/Theme?
My fave games for music that is designed specifically for that game are:
Freelancer: The music is very atmospheric so enhances the gameplay immensely, it gives a clue to the level of friendliness or mystery the area you are flying through has to you.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Epic music in there of different types, it is pure fun.
I would also say that the WWE games have epic music, but only because they use the music the WWE uses anyway (which is well under-rated in general).
However, far too many games just use actual music, or have poor music and allow you to use your own. With the possible exception of Grand Theft Auto (because of the style and Radio Stations) this is either a mistake or adds nothing to it.
