Virtual Pop Stars
I don't know whether it's revolutionary or just plain scary when the Japanese create and celebrate virtual pop stars live on stage.
Here are some clips of Hatsune Miku (and friends) performing virtually live on stage:
I must say, despite the anime design, they're really well animated.

Uuuuh... was that actually on stage to witness, or did they add the animated characters later after recording nothing? O_O

There is a see-through screen on the middle of the stage on which they project the animation.

Japanese people and their silly obsession over virtual crap. It's one of the few things I hate about Japan.

Re: Virtual Pop Stars
Japan is obsessed with virtuality. Hence why fantasy genre games sell better there than the war-based games that are more popular in the West.

Re: Virtual Pop Stars
We've done this before in the west with the Gorillaz, earlier live shows used a virtual band to play the songs with the real band underneath the stage.

Well, they already started with highly "sophisticated" dolls.Arkanay wrote:Just wait until a Japanese Corporation decides to make a Virtual Brothel.

*cough cough*
I know they are not virtual, but they are animated, and perform(ed) as puppets on stage but GORILLAZ!
Although the performers behind Gorillaz are happy to make themselves known.

I think their technology is pretty cool. It would be neat to see. But they really really like their anime lol.

admittedly rather impressive that they can make is look like the anime character is standing right there. what the hell is their obsession with green glow sticks though?

The shiny! The precious is ours!
Those characters are well animated indeed. But just the whole concept and atmosphere is really not my thing.
But I do like the glow sticks.

Reviving this thread for the purpose of announcing I absolutely LOVE Vocaloid.
Everything you've mentioned about it being scary or crap, I find quite endearing. These anime characters are incredibly, incredibly detailed to brilliance, and I am honestly determined to go there and see this. I am also in the fanbase and I'm petitioning with several others for a world tour.
Hatsune Miku is brilliant and she really deserves the popularity she's getting. Afterall, what started off as a simple android program evolved into what you saw there. There are currently 22 Vocaloids (Rin and Len count as one vocaloid, as they are twins and came in one boxset.) Rin is my favourite, I think she's pretty (And my friend Alex thinks she's hot lol, I told him that she's mine ), with my second favourite being Luka, the pale pink haired lady.

This is about idols but it's practically the same thing, this argument may prove entertaining personnaly i reckon that techno shiz is preety leet and i say this without prejudice but then again.. i do watch 7 animes so it would be expected of me to like that, but it is odd just how much they're obbsessed and fascinated by technology and the virtual world
i hope this video proves relative:
