Classroom "Memes"
We had a quite small discussion in the "Dreams" thread, so I just wanted to hear people's stories on this situation.
I'll start out. I come from mostly an Armenian city in the vicinity of Los Angeles. Therefore, most of our "memes" are Armenian.
կով (sounds like "cove", translates to "cow") - Used to replace any word, or just say it for pure randoness.
ex.
In Spanish class - ¿Cómo estás, կով?
Math - Tell the կով to teach me math.
Talking about farm animals - I have nothing to say.

Re: Classroom "Memes"
A meme is a cultural remark that once adopted shows you are a part of that culture. Basically any word such as 'cool', 'groovy' or 'i herd u liek mudkipz' (how I hate that phrase) are memes, created in verbal or written/visual conversation.LordRemington wrote:I've never fully understood the concept or purpose of memes............
A classroom meme is the same as a clique expression that only members thereof know. Another word for it is insider expression or insider joke.

oh I was under the impression memes were just internet sayings like 'I herd u liek mudkipz' (yes I loathe that saying as well andy)
Re: Classroom "Memes"
No, the internet meme is only one kind of cultural imitated practice that humans transmit, in both small and large groups.

In my german class, a meme is: " Wann sprichst du mit Timo?"
Because when my friend revised with another friend, he couldn´t answer the question cuz it was totally random and he panicked thinking he had to revise more. o_o

Re: Classroom "Memes"
We have this meme in my class: 4 = 0
It started in math class sometime. A friend of mine was... well, doing math, and at some point he came to the strange conclusion that 4 = 0 . But he didn't notice, and probably wouldn't have if somebody hadn't pointed it out to him.
It started off as a way of teasing him, but has since then become a meme.

Honestly, I don't like the majority of all memes, and I think they are pretty lame. Especially forum ones. Inside jokes are ok, as long as people don't continuously talk about them in front of others that aren't involved in it.

Re: Classroom "Memes"
I think I'll share a few from my class.
1. Scat randomly in a deep scratchy voice, especially during sporting events you participate in.
2. A joke from the beginning of a rather (ok, it IS inappropriate, especially for school) inappropriate song that I shall not post here, but if you really need to know, PM me. "Ok, so there's this blind man, right. He's feelin his way down the street with his stick, right. He walks past the fish market, you know what I'm sayin?..."
3. Do random cr*p and get in trouble for doing nothing. (drop your lunch box then get threatened with cleaning lockers)

Re: Classroom "Memes"
Great thread.
In my class, we . . .
1. Say the name of someone who goes to another school in a boring tone. We have about three people that we randomly say.
2. "Stick" someone. This means a light punch to the jaw area. The person who gets hit feels like their jaw is messed up for 5 or 10 minutes.
3. Say, "Arg" in a boring tone after you do something random, like stick somebody.
4. Talk in the voice of Pat Roberts, a kid who used to go to our school.

Re: Classroom "Memes"
In my class we often do the "You are..."-kind of come-back. I mean, when for example somebody calls a person stupid, the person replies "No you're stupid!"
But it's funnier to make it random, and if doesn't make any sense. And we pretend we're serious. So a conversation could go like this:
Person 1: "I hate math."
Person 2: "You're math!"
...or:
Person 1: "We were supposed to bring it to class. Wich you don't have, I see."
Person 2: "You're wich I don't have!"
Edit: And here's another I remember:
Person 1: "So what do we get?"
Person 2: "I don't know..."
Person 1: "X meters squared."
Person 2: "You're x meters squared!"

Re: Classroom "Memes"
In my class, everytime this certain guy called Adam says something stupid, one person ALWAYS has to say to him "You and your chez.". I dunno where they got this from, but I think it was when he was saying something stupid and in the middle of it said chez like "Chezzzzzz!", it's really funny if you hear how he says it.
Holy cereals, it actually works! O.o It feels weird...

Re: Classroom "Memes"
Indeed it does, but they're not too overused, and not really as annoying as "so i herd u liek mudkipz."Vektrix wrote:EuroSpore has it's share of memes I think...
My personal favorite (if it counts as a meme even) is when there's a newbie to the forum, people act like it's a tour/safari.
"And to your left...."
"A flight attendant will be right with you."
