The bus hijacking at the Phils.
Discuss.
For those who don't know it, some policeman fired from his job(crime was extortion) from the Philippines got on a Chinese tourist bus with an M16, held the passengers hostage, and demanded his job back or he would kill everyone inside. He had the bus for 12 hours before getting shot by a sniper.
Or google it for more.

An ex-policemen hijacking a bus with hostages... how ironic. Not surprised he lost his job.

What did he expect to happen.. that he got his job back after all that? Any hostage-taker will in the end come up in an impossible situation, the policeman on the Philippines could never win, and he didn't.
When that's said, the police stormed the bus in the end and 9 people got killed, including the hostage-taker, not an happy ending.

The police handled that situation terribly. I was watching it on the news as it happened. Those 9 people should still be alive had the police no been so brash. What I still don't get is why the bus driver who escpaed early in the situation, said that the gunman had killed all the passengers. He hadn't killed anyone until that policeman tried to open the side access door to the bus.
the man was clearly insane. A sane person would know that hijacking a bus and threatening to kill everyone, would not get him his police job back.
I think once he came to his senses and knew what he was doing would only land him in prison, he must have fired a couple bullets and told the bus driver to go and tell the police he'd killed all the passengers, so that the police would kill him (which they ended up doing). The bus driver would have been so terrified, he would have believe the gunman

I saw one epic fail in that operation.
The media was all over the situation. There was a cable TV on the bus. Guess.

No i was more referring to the repeated bumbling of the police. They handled the situation stupidly. They should have kept there distance and tried negotiating. most Hostage situations are brought to a non-violent end and almost all can be brought to a non violent end. Instead now the gunman and nine innocent chinese people are dead.....
