I can describe it in one word:
Presents

Re: Christmas
Yeah, what starwars put is pretty much the killer as far as christmas is concerned. Give a little bit of rope, and pretty soon they'll want more...much more. And then, the overall meaning of christmas, to be with friends and family, to enjoy what you have, is lost. Marketing kills your winter festival.

Don't get me wrong, I love getting presents. But I love being with my family and friends more, because I don't know how much longer they'll be around
Re: Christmas
I enjoy presents too, but if you were to force me to decide between a present and Taldar, you can pretty much fathom who I'd spend the day with.

The main highlight for me is Christmas dinner, the food isn't the only attraction, the whole family (between 12-15 of us from my Dad's side of the family) get to interact and have a good time

Re: Christmas
Don't care about the presents at all. I don't even want anything. My Christmas is always a white Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we spend it with family from my dad's side. Only about a fifth of the family shows up though, so maybe 40ish people. Then the next morning is our immediate family gathering where we open presents, hang out and have a huge brunch. Then we go to my mom's side of the family which is around 50 people. We are all very close and stay until around 3am in the morning. Christmas is all about family and spending time with each other.
This year though, not sure what's going to happen. My older sister works cause she's a nurse. Hopefully by then I'll have a job too, so I'll most likely be working
If that happens, we'll probably have Christmas on New Years instead.
Oh, and you guys have to try eggnog. A lot of people don't like it, but I love it!

Re: Christmas
I come from a big family but we don't like each other. I celebrate Christmas with 3 other people, total. Do a gift exchange. Don't really give a SPORE what I get. If asked, I just say 'credit giftcard'.
The food, though, is what makes the whole holiday season an experience for me. Despite having a little IBS in me, I still eat a lot. Probaly how I keep my weight in check, luzl.

Re: Christmas
Presents don't mean much, its just enjoying the day with family I don't get to see often thats important.
We always have Christmas at out aunt's house. Every year we play pool volley ball, play games (normally Cranium),then we the un-wrapping of the presents and what not. While I'm not huge on presents, i love the ones I get from my grandfather. my grandfather is notoriously cheap, so normally the presents he gives are very random and often poorly made. (For instance last year he gave me an RC car, remembering I was 18 at the time. I looked on the back, it said "Chocking hazard. Parts will fall off. Not safe for children under 5".) Made me laugh, but its the thought that counts.
After the presents, we have a massive dinner. Its some what tradition at our christmas dinner to read the crappy jokes you find in those cracker things and then mock them for being crappy. After that more games.
The one thing i always think about at Christmas is the shrimp (yay for australian stereotype). Shrimp cocktail every year.....mmmmmmmm.
As for decorations. We put out a talking singing santa and penguin.. they are amusing for about the first 5 seconds, but then get incredibly irritating.
@sakibuns. I shall try this egg of the nog. Been curious as to what it tastes like

Re: Christmas
@Saki: Are you a family of rabbits? We barely get half as much for a family reunion.
We used to celebrate Christmas with the family on my dad's side about a week before. In the past decade, this has become a more decimated tradition which I think will be skipped this year.
In the past, though, we went to my grandparents' vacation home in the mountains every winter to spend Christmas with my uncles, aunt and cousins. Over the years, my much older cousins had started families on their own and after my grandfather's passing a decade ago, the house went to my eldest uncle who has now continued that tradition with his three daughters and their families.
I haven't been up there since.

On my mum's side we have at most maybe 20 close relatives, so our christmases are fairly small, but on my dad's side, I have somewhere in the 200 plus relatives....... Hispanic families are normally very large.
