Re: NEWS: London Riots Spread
It's the typical lazy excuse. Games/Movies/Music turn people into criminals.
They in fact can do that, lead people into doing things they wouldn't if they hadn't been in contact with those products, but it's not simple. Those people had to already have some sort of mental issue in the first place in order to be led that way.
I think today's society of giving more freedom to the youth can influence this type of behaviour. It's important to give kids space to breathe but you have to draw a line somewhere.

To give some insight as to why the riots started:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biJgILxGK0o&feature=player_embedded
But I read it started by some guy getting shot in the face by the police..

Ah, yes, there are reports flying around that Mark Duggan was in the process of being arrested by a number of Officers and he thought back.

There are conflicting reports that he was a either a family man or a hardened criminal - it is possible to be both.

Re: NEWS: London Riots Spread
Got another one. It more or less started with a peacefull protest because of the shooting incident and those rioters are probably just jumping on the bandwagon.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. A legitimate protest about the shooting of man who may or may not have been a hardened criminal became a pointless riot and chance to steal stuff. I have been getting regular tweets from several news organisations of prison sentences of 4 and 8 months for the looting in both London and Manchester.
My opinion, it was just stupidity, plain and simple. This did not happen when Charles de Menezes was shot dead, and that was a clear case of Police idiocy, this is not clear cut in any way, shape or form.

There's probably a lot more behind it though, people don't riot for nothing. Found this one quite interesting:

jup, and that's probably the most frightning part. I've got a feeling this will spread. There are countries in Europe in worse conditions than the UK.

Sheesh, their solution is more police and more police. How about you start helping them to regain or find their status in society? This is the result of cutting after school programs and other activities and organizations just so they can have more for themselves and paying for things they and the country don't need. Combined the the overpriced standard lifestyle you should've been more prepared for the consequences.
Two years ago, they had the UK parliament expense scandal and now they're faced with riots. Do your own math.

Andy, it is all about cuts at the moment. A counter-productive to be doing, since when you make cuts, the first thing to go is jobs. Making it worse, because for every job that is lost, that is a load of tax taken out of your income and ton of benefits added on. The police have been greatly effected by cuts at this stage.
A lot of the coverage in the UK has been about how there were not enough police, so we send in 10,000 police from other forces throughout the country. That was a knee-jerk reaction in order to stem the tide, and it has worked. But it has not solved what caused it in the first place.
The problem is that most cities in Europe and North America have areas that are as bad, or worse than Tottenham in terms of poverty and crime. With most governments making massive cuts, unfortunately many things get cut, which may make crime or the chance of rioting and looting worse. The key I think is by all means make cuts, but the government needs to lead by example and not make those cuts in jobs themselves.
Equally, our government awarded a contract to a German company, when a perfectly good British company was bidding for it. This caused a bit of discussion in regards to hypocrisy - yes it is good for the German company, but the British Government is not there to help Germany.
In essence, I blame the Government's hypocrisy and poor economic policy.

To be fair, you don't know the criteria this choice was made upon and "a perfectly good British company" sounds like borderline propaganda.

True Slime, but when our own Government insists that companies use British products, it then turns around and awards a massive contract to a foreign company, it sends out completely the wrong message. The company that was not awarded the contract has since announced job losses.
