Disc Problem... Empty Disc Problem...

My computer isn't recognising any discs i put into it, this includes Spore, other games, CDs, DVDs etc... i've tried rebooting it several times and removing new software.
Also if i go into My Computer and double click on then disc icon (which is some how recognised as being there), the computer will crash

Any help? Sad

Eek, sounds like a hardware issue. Your computer clearly knows what it is (otherwise you'd get no disk icon). My guess is you need a new drive I'm afraid. Sad

I had the same issue with my old desktop, but that had two drives and the dead drive was just my CDRW and not my DVD drive Cool

By crash, do you mean it just freezes the machine or does it close down the machine?

All programs freeze until i take the disc out, then everything is fine again.
Getting it fixed may be an issue my dad hates updating/fixing computers... Sad

On the spore front i'll be getting a Macbook Pro soon, so i'll be able to run spore from that. Smile

That sounds to me like a drive issue entirely.... sorry.

This happened to me, too, once. Try rolling back/re-installing the drive's driver. You should find it in the installation disc.

This problem happens to often, Ive also had this problem a year back or so. After struggling with the issue for moths, I send the computer to repair. It took 2 moths before I got it back. Yeah, Acer managed to send the thing all the way to Finland when it was done O.o
