TV Show & Special Discussion
Use this thread to talk about any television shows or TV specials you've seen.
--------------------------------
I've started watching two new shows since last week; Harry's Law and Fairly Legal. They're both shows about a lawyer/mediator trying to get a semi-fresh start.
Harry's Law stars none other than Kathy Bates who gives a tremendous performance as Harriet Corn, a patent lawyer-turned-criminal defendant who opens her own practice called Harriet's Law & Fine Shoes in a dubious street of Cincinnati, Ohio. As typical for a David E. Kelly show (known for L.A. Law, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, etc.), both attorneys and clients are quite eccentric and the fact that the practice is set in a semi-converted shoe store just scream Monday entertainment.
Originally, the leading role was offered to Lewis Black, my idol , but somehow that didn't come to fruition so it ended up on Kathy's desk, which wasn't a bad decision after all. Ever since I've read that fact, I can't help but imagine how Lewis would play it...
Fairly Legal is headed by Sarah Shahi who plays a lawyer-turned-mediator in her recently deceased father's law firm in San Francisco. Everyone in her life takes the role of a character from the Wizard of Oz and works as an attorney or legal secretary. What makes her stand out is that she lives in her late father's sailboat and she acts as mediator for both business clients and court-ordered cases where a lawyer would cost too much, meaning she comes in to find a win-win solution before an issue becomes a case.
Even though Sarah has quite some TV credit, I've watched her the first time and I like her already. Her performance reminds me of everything Sandra Bullock has done, down to her looks, and she makes finding a solution peacefully going the extra mile to make things right. Despite her impossibly good looks, that makes her so lovable, as does her stepmother who despite her position as her new boss can act like one.
I can only recommend you guys to watch these shows if you like that sort of thing.

I've watched Modern Family recently, getting the whole Season 1. It's one of the only funny shows that my mom actually let's me watch, and I love it. It's got really funny one-liners and stuff, although it's mostly a sit-com.

The modern family is awesome. Cameron is hilarious.
I haven't been watching all that much tv lately. All I've really watched recently was a show about the origins of dogs. Very interesting in that all dogs can be traced back to the grey wolves (not matter what breed) and that dogs developed barking so that they could communicate with humans (wolves don't bark, it was only after generations of domestication and the wolves became dogs, that they started barking). The show even goes as far to say that without dogs, we wouldn't be as advanced as we are today as dogs allowed us to heard animals in early society, which was critical in beginning agriculture.
Still even though they showed a lot of evidence to support that all dogs from grey wolves, I don't for a second believe Butters has any wolf in him. My theory is that he is some sort of monkey/ hamster hybrid.
Re: TV Show & Special Discussion
Come Fly With Me is probably one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time xD "we got noooo hot water, so I have to close up shop and go into London with my sister! The Lord works in mysterious ways...."
It's stupid and that's what make it awesome. Look it up on the BBC iplayer website

Re: TV Show & Special Discussion
Scrubs in my opinion is the best sitcom of the 21st (so far). I don't think its possible I could ever get bored of scrubs
Re: TV Show & Special Discussion
Scrubs is quite funny indeed. Not one of my favourites, though.
Some examples of the ones I enjoy the most are Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother.
Don't know if you guys know it but there's an old sitcom called Father Ted, which I think it is quite hillarious. Seen many episodes online.

Re: TV Show & Special Discussion
Naughty me, reviving an old thread
But I was actually planning on making a tv show discussion till I remembered this one.
I don't watch a ton of TV, but there are a few shows I like to watch when I get the chance.
Hungry Beast is one of those sort of "the more you know" type things. The normally have a topic or general theme such as prison, or piracy and then reveal a ton of interesting facts about it. Quite an interesting show, learned alot from watching it. Aussie tv though so none here would know about it.
Another aussie tv show I love to watch when its on is called The Gruen Transfer. Basically a tv show about the advertising industry and the various ads on tv and how they get us to buy things. Wil Anderson (comedian fella) host the show. Its a pretty funny show.
I also watched a Fraser marathon that was playing over the entire Easter Weekend. Still a funny show. I want to be like Niles one day.

I've started watching Fringe recently and I must say it is quite cool. Funny, mysterious and interesting series.
I dig it.

Re: TV Show & Special Discussion
I've been catching up with a couple of BritComs and noticed how I can never watch more than two episodes back-to-back. I don't know whether it's the content or the actual humor that I need to digest first.
Miranda - A hilarious sitcom about a neurotic woman who owns a joke shop run by her sweet, yet annoying best friend. She's frequently interrupted by her mother who wants to marry her off while she's trying to pursue a romantic relationship with her best guy friend who works as a chef next door. I've never had such a riot watching a comedy before. Miranda Hart is at her best and never fails to make me giggle even watching it over and over.
The Vicar of Dibley - I never knew there are so few episodes, but surprisingly, I could never watch more than two episodes at a time. Whenever Alice and Hugo are in the same scene their combined stupidity makes my IQ drop. Dawn French, though, is brilliant at dealing with a village full of loonies while trying to find her own happiness.
Mrs. Brown's Boys - I came across some clips of this show on YouTube. It's more a farce than a proper sitcom. Most of the cast are family members of Brendon O'Carroll, the creator and star of the show - Mrs. Brown (in drag) - and they frequently break character or keep bloopers in the final product. It's very Irish and I sometimes had trouble understanding some of the dialog but it had its very funny moments, especially when Mrs. Brows educates us with her no-nonsense wisdom.

I've just learned that CBS is replacing Charlie Sheen with Ashton Kutcher on Two and a Half Men.

Meh, to me they are just replacing one unfunny person with almost equally unfunny person. No real difference.

That just sounds odd. I'm not sure if it'll work with Ashton Kutcher taking up Charlie's role.

After several years of following House, I have just seen the last episode of the seventh season.
Overall, a great, intelligent and funny series and while this season ended kind of hanging (and violently), I think it still lived up to the House level.

Just saw an interview with two girls from The Only Way is Essex.
Do you guys understand everything they say and what exactly makes them famous? What is their show about?

Haven't been watching much TV since i've got to uni, but i have been dipping in and out of TV boxed sets on DVD. Which include
- True Blood - Potential to be terrible but somehow is executed very well.
- Rome - has excess of everything in it, sex, violence etc...
- Black Books - awesome comedy from Bill Bailey and Dylan Moran
- Jeeves and Wooster - Stephen Fry as Jeeves and Hugh Laurie as Wooster = amazing combination
- Sharpe - Napoleonic action with Sean Bean as the lead role.
