New Kind of Spam? Empty New Kind of Spam?

Post by Andeavor Thu Sep 02, 2010 11:08 pm

Today, I've received about 15 delivery status notification messages (postmaster@mail.hotmail.com) saying that an e-mail delivery to a certain account has failed.

The odd thing is, none of the e-mail addresses given are on my contact list and the e-mail it was sent from is a random aol, hotmail or yahoo address with a short message containing a link and a headline full of spelling mistakes. And the diagnostic code says the message was not sent because it contained suspicious content. WTF?

I know there's a bot that sends out bogus mail to your contacts with a suspicious link but this is new.

Are they now sending us spam through the status notification system? Hunf

I know someone else on this forum who is sending out stupid spam links without him previously knowing (poor guy, the links are about viagra!)

I think it's those stupid spam emails, but the contacts it's trying to forward them to fail (like any other email would, and send you a message about it) or the scripting was done by an idiot.

Andy, I know you had some spam problems with Facebook. You might have trouble in your hands - a lot of people are getting hacked lately on various websites (my brother did on facebook, despite him never using it) and it looks like someone *might* be playing with your account. I can only hope the email thing is a glitch.

I hope so, too. The facebook spam was kid of worrying but I think it's under control now. This, though is very new. As I said, when it sent out spam from my email it sent it to my contacts and I did get failed delivery notices from several non-functioning e-mails thereof, but this time it's just a random e-mail I have never seen before.

Oh, and I have been hacked once as was using the PC with the hacker taking full control over it. But that was back when the internet was still in its diapers and the hacker was friendly enough to make me delete the bug myself.
