Re: Discuss Gaming here
Oh my god. I've had this game for a couple days now, and I got to the first boss, as Andy mentioned. ^
I thought he was going to be a bit of a pushover, but I think I have tennis elbow from trying to hit him so much. @_@

Re: Discuss Gaming here
I just finished AC: Revelations.
It's pretty much like Bortherhood with one major city and plenty to do within with the help of your recruited brothers and sisters, of course. However, the most annoying thing is that once you've created too much awareness, the Templars can take back their dens/towers. You can enter a mini-game to get back the control but if you fail you have to find and kill the captain all over again.
Story-wise, I found it to be quite better revealing than Brotherhood and a nice finish to the Ezio story arc. The ending is quite dramatic and cross-generational/cross-dimensual (you'll see) but it will cut off right before you know what has have to happen.
Now I can't wait for ACIII and the conclusion of this series. Everybody's going on about it being set during the American Revolution, which would give reason to why Desmond's creed ended up in North America. However, I'd much prefer it to be during or at the brink of the French Revolution. The late 18th century Paris, Versailles and the French countryside would be quite an interesting setting.

Been tossing up whether I should get "Dark Souls". its supposed to be an amazingly well made game, however its also supposed to be one of the most infuriatingly hard games ever made.
Part of me wants to get it due to the fact it looks fantastic, but i'm hesitant because I am concerned me crappy gaming abilities will prevent me from passing the first 10 minutes of the game, and I'll just end up rage quitting.

You could pick up Demons Souls instead if you want. It's the first game in the franchise. It's just as well made and difficult as Dark Souls is. Just might cost less. I can pick up Dark Souls for cheap right now over here but that's only due to Boxing Week sales.
Either way, the game's difficulty helps you to learn, adapt and grow as a player. It is fairly 'realistic' and has a nice, rich organic feel to it. None of that arcadey, checkpoint laden kids stuff. I found its difficulty is what made it addicting.

The only thing that comes to my mind is Skyrim, but my opinion is bias considering my love of the elder scrolls series. In truth, you'll either love Skyrim, or not like it at all because its not your style of game.
What sort of game are you looking at getting? (fps, sport, simulation)
As you've probably noticed, Steam's having their end of year sale, alot great game between 30%-75% off. I got a few games for only a couple bucks. If you are considering on getting some games, I'd suggest going to the steams home page and looking through the current deals. You could pick up several good games for the price of one.

I got The Sims 3 and it's first three expansions and three stuff packs for the price of a regular game.
Allthough I've never taken advantage of those particular deals, during those sales, Steam offers the whole collection of a certain developer to a price of one full game.Vektrix wrote:As you've probably noticed, Steam's having their end of year sale, alot great game between 30%-75% off. I got Universe Sandbox (which is quite interesting) and am currently downloading Galactic Civilization II: Ultimate Edition - thanks mum so i could afford this as Xmas pressies.
I would not describe Universe Sandbox as a game, more as a piece of Theoretical Cosmology Software.

Re: Discuss Gaming here
I bought Universe Sandbox almost 2 years ago. I never really considered it a game, and I was surprised when I heard it went on Steam.

Re: Discuss Gaming here
Discovered today it is nearly impossible to find copies of age of Mythology anymore. Me and my brother have been trying to find two copies so we can both play against each other. Its easily my favourite RTS game that I've ever owned, and yet I struggle to find a single copy that doesn't require me to pay $30 in shipping and handling. Was hoping steam might have it, but alas no.
Frustrating.

It is certainly a very good game. I still have a copy.

I know, which is why its soo frustrating I can't find any copies . It confuses me that every store I got to has classics sections which always have age of empires and even more obscure RTSs but not age age of mythology.
While rummaging around to try and find the install disc for age of mythology, I found the disc for another RTS I rather liked called Rise & Fall: Civilsations at war. I only found one disc so i thought it might not work, but not only did it only use one disc, it didn't even need a CD key, which I found odd. The game is only from 2006. Even Age of Empires needed a cd key and that was made a decade earlier. Still I'm not complaining. Its helping me get over not being able to find AOM

You know what's wrong with America? Saints Row The Third... been watching some videos and all I can say, I hope kids these days don't think it's a tutorial on how to be a badass in real life.

Been playing Galactic Civilizations II a lot recently. Have just started to get into the Spaceship Editor - it is almost as varied as Spore Spaceship editor, except it is easier to do scaling (since some of the designs call for that). I do, however, have a few suggestions for improving the game, and as of yet have not found a single mod that covers any of them.

Heard good things about The Total war games and Rome in particular. Been considering getting it recently.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bought Fable: The lost chapters on steam. Seems a little redundant as I had the lost chapter on my xbox, but I'm more and more getting into pc gaming and i'm finding myself less and less interested in console gaming.
One thing I did instantly notice was the graphics quality and the frame rate were far better, even though I was just running it on my very average, non-gaming purpose laptop. Looking back at the console version, I didn't realise how laggy the console version was.
Re: Discuss Gaming here
One of the reasons I generally dislike MMRPGs is that every time the server is down, you can't play at all.
Star Trek Online just went free-for-play, I was gonna give it a shot but now I have to wait for their server maintenance to pass by.

Same here, love that game. The size of those armies make for some spectacular gameplay. Played empire total war as well: I can recommend it, the naval battles are awesome.MarkyDMan wrote:I've been playing Rome: Total War.....a lot........2 of my friends have it, and it's a lot of fun online with them Would recommend it to anyone that doesn't have it already
Right now I'm playing the latest version of Europa UniversalisIII (divine wind).

My issue with MMORPG's is that in order to make them worth while (seeing as most you have to pay for), you need to dedicate a fairly large amoun of your time to. I like games that I can just jump into and out of whenever, but mmorpgs more often require long periods of play time to get to a good level. I'm not condemning MMo's in anyway or people who play them though, I just can't personally do it, as I find it hard to invest large amounts of time to a particular game and keep interest in it for a long period of time.

Recently feeling nostalgic, I bought star wars: Jedi Knights II: Jedi Outcast. Even though now, the game is ridiculously date in basically every regard, I still find it rather fun to play. Haven't gotten up to the part where I can start using the force though. Thats the stuff I have most most fond memories of the game about.
Re: Discuss Gaming here
I've been playing SR the Third a lot, and it is awesome. Attempting to surf on a falling VTOL has been my main goal and it's harder than it sounds Stupid physics make me bounce back up when I hit the surface of the VTOL, I rarely have the chance to stand on it.
I've also been doing what I call Satchel Charge Hopping (SCH). I attach 2 or 3 satchel charges under a light car, then I detonate them in fast succession (with the No Car Damage cheat), and literally fly high into the air. I've done some pretty awesome stunts!

I've been on the fence as to whether to get SR3 or not. Some like it, some hate it. Doesn't seem to be a grey area. It looks fun, but I've heard they made a few not so good changes to it, particularly with how the story unfolds, in that unlike the first and second, its completely linear in that you can't choose which factions to go after whenever you want.
Still might et it for the sandbox fun though

Just bought "Universe Sandbox". Not really a game. It's more of a very interactive simulator. Love how you are able to mess with physics and see what would happen if you were to change the mass of planets or collide commets with planets.
Not 100% accurate though. I decided to be silly and make earth's mass something rediculous like 1750000000000000000000000000 suns and it caused all of the planets to fly inwards and then they got blasted out into the universe at what must be many times the speed of light. Probably not what would happen.
Re: Discuss Gaming here
I've acquired a lot of games the last couple of months. Working hard through the first semester of University, I thought I deserved it.
Some of those games were Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity, Quake 4, Skyrim, Witcher II (had it for some time but only installed it recently after owning a new laptop), among others.
I really like all of those games and had awesome gaming experiences with each one of them. Very, very cool.
I believe Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity could interest a lot of people around here. It's strategy in space and while it may take some days to properly get into the game (meaning there are good chances of getting whooped in the first tries) it is definitely worth the effort, especially when playing versus more than one opponent, since you can establish alliances and so on. It's practically how I wish the Space Stage in Spore was, with lots of fleets, upgrades, mining, exploring, diplomacy, etc. Here's the website for those interested: http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/
