Looks is the keyword there. What it lacks in the way of graphics it more than certainly makes up for in the gameplay and addicting...ness. It's really a fun game once you get past the squares.

Re: Minecraft General Discussion
Well that seems like a dumb reason to play games.
Especially seeing as you can make Minecraft look like whatever you want it to. Texture packs FTW.

No, I just think that playing games for graphics as opposed to story and gameplay is dumb.

Because I couldn't stand playing a game if the gameplay sucks and it has no story. Its like watching paint dry because its a nice shade of blue or something.

One does not need to open a book to enjoy it Trick.

Opening the book and reading it is the purpose. You don't enjoy the book by looking at the cover. You enjoy the cover. Not the book itself.

I recently purchased this game, after playing the demo a little. The first thing I thought when playing it was... UGH these graphics are... so 80's! It did put me off, I have to admit. I also introduced my sister to it, who took one look and was like, looks pants. So yeah, it puts you off.
But after a few plays, the mechanics is what you come to really enjoy, the fact that its so open makes the graphics enjoyable in a weird way. Some might also call them neccisary for the game to work. I can't get my sister off of it, to play it now! Plus, I can tell Im gonna have fun with modding some textures later on!
So don't judge a book by its cover
----
Oh, thanks to everyone who gave me a little info on the game, the demo pretty much sealed the deal for me though. So yes, Im now a proud Minecraft owner
I've got one world, set on peaceful so far, because those damn creepers... SSSSS....
Bad tiems.

Re: Minecraft General Discussion
If your so up tight about the graphics, just mod it and install a high-definition texture pack. YOu can get standard texture packs (same as original 16x16) but there's also a 256x256 custom one that is nearly photorealistic

I plan on installing a few later on, I enjoy the graphics as they are, but I really enjoy the fact you can change them so much.
I really want to make my own too, looks super fun, as well as alot of work!

Re: Minecraft General Discussion
Sounds awesome, you'll have to post screenshots laters
---
Well, I started over because I stupidly went wandering into the forest biome and came across a desert. While harvesting cactus I got completley lost and ended up wandering for 3 or 4 minecraft days over grassland, tundra and more forest. In the end I made a hut and stored my stuff and went to drown.
Then it said: Bed is occupied or obstructed So I was still lost. Silly me and my lack of experiance.

Re: Minecraft General Discussion
Just dig a mine down. Find some redstone dust and iron, come back up. Make a compass and go in the general direction of your spawn. Depending how far away from your spawn you built your house it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Re: Minecraft General Discussion
Thats the issue, I got placed on my original spawn point, I thought my house would be easy to find, but apparantly not. I guess thats what you get when your map gives you a labryinth of mountains to contend with XD
It doesnt matter too much though, because I started a new world, with some epic scenery and have got much further with that, so I'll just keep the other one on the off chance I want to play it again.

Re: Minecraft General Discussion
As long as you´re having fun, Red, home is the place you´re currently at.
A funny aspect about getting lost is that you can always make a new house somewhere else and then many days later find the abandoned remnants of your first house.

Very true Ark!
Yeah, the first world I had, I made little huts here and there to dump stuff into that I didnt want to lose. I imagine it'll be fun coming across them again ^^
---
While doing some reading I came across a link to the MC forums, where there was some stuff about a meeting with notch, it revealed some interesting stuff:
He will be trying to include goblin villages (with neutral, friendly and aggressive status), dragons (possibly lairs), animals you can leash and possibly get to drag minecarts, more animals in general and more unfriendlies that have area/time/biome specific places and strengths.
He wants to include megastructures, such as volcanoes, once the physics are sorted for that as well as adding coral and undersea structure so its more realistic. There was also the possibility there would be moon phases and better weather biomes.
He also revealed there would be more items possibly, including cheese. Some of which (possibly the golden items) that could be 'enchanted'. On top of that there will be trapdoors and the possibility of minecart elevators.
He also said the look would not change, although it was intended, its become Iconic and would be silly to alter it now.
I can't for the life of me find the silly link. It was in the wikipedia for minecraft anyway, linking to the forums.
