Spore Spice Recipes
I have been thinking on ana off for a long time about this. Ever since my Ergonian race, I developed the idea of mixing spices for various outcomes, everything from unique flavours to Rocket Fuel, Poisons and Fertilisers. So I thought I'd start this thread to see what you guys think and see if we can develop a good set of recipes that could be adapted universally between our empires. Think of it like a Periodic Table of effects beyond the standard scientific periodic table.
I also worked on (as part of my Vekarran set) the fact that Spices can be used in three different states, Raw, Milled and Refined. Raw is unedited spice, Milled is spice that has simply been ground and Refined is spice that has been through heat treatment.
Basic Spice
Red: This spice is used as a flavoring for certain foods and often produces an eye-watering effect on the consumer.
Milled: Used as an additive in Insecticide and Pesticide.
Refined: Added to fuel to increase performance.
Abundance: Present on approximately 30% of planets.
Properties: Burns when introduced to a naked flame.
Yellow: A sour spice used primarily in summertime beverages.
Abundance: Present on approximately 25% of planets.
Blue: A deep blue spice used primarily as a sleeping aid.
Milled: Used in animal tranquilisers.
Abundance: Present on approximately 20% of planets.
Properties: Only burns in presence of other spices.
Green: A green spice used in making a relaxing, minty tea beverage.
Milled: Can be burned and is often used in religious rituals.
Abundance: Present on approximately 15% of planets.
Properties: Burns when introduced to a naked flame.
Pink: A pink spice used as a sweetener or as a floor polish.
Refined: Used in cleaning agents.
Abundance: Present on approximately 10% of planets.
Purple: A light purple spice used in making a sweet-flavored purple pudding.
Abundance: Present on approximately 5% of planets.
Recipes
Anesthetic:
Beauty Cream: Green and Purple
Cloning Powder:
Floor Polish: Yellow and Pink
Rocket Fuel Additive (power and efficiency): Red and Blue
Sleeping Gas: Blue and Green
Feel free to suggest your own recipes and possible properties of each spice.

Re: Spore Spice Recipes
Ooh, I like that idea!
I think the purple spice is not another sweetener but a spice, which evokes different tastes in everyone - for some it's sweet, for others bitter and some find it makes food tastier nonetheless. And due to its rarity considered a luxury.
Rocket Fuel red and blue
Sleeping Gas blue and green
Floor Polish pink and yellow
Beauty Cream green and purple

Re: Spore Spice Recipes
I like those two recipes, Andy, adding them now.
Incidentally, the recipes can involve more than just two spices, trying to work out combinations of three, four and five spices too And, the ultimate question, what happens when you use all six spices?
I'm thinking a big explosion, a truth serum or a killer curry.

Re: Spore Spice Recipes
Well how about a Grox-5-Spice? Made from Red, Yellow, Green, Pink and Purple?
Special Green spice, made by mixing the blue and yellow spices together, often taken as a hallucinogenic, the effects of which can be observed on the slightly more "dippy" creatures encountered in space

Re: Spore Spice Recipes
Hmmm.... I was thinking, the more spice used, the complex the result.
Ben, I'd suggest Blue, Yellow and Green for the Hallucinagenic drug.

Re: Spore Spice Recipes
I won't try to be too creative here just yet, since I'm not usually very good at that sort of thing.
In-game, or at least in the manual, "Sporillium" fuel is mentioned, which is apparently made from spice. And then there's the "white spice" glitch. Would that just be a rare form of spice that only exists in gas giants, much like the cirumstances of the glitch? Or would it be what you get when all six spices are mixed together? But if the colour of spice is just pigments, which I think is more likely than luminescence, then a mixture of all the spices should just turn a sort of muddy colour. Or, perhaps, white spice is a refined form of the mixture...
And then, maybe they're all connected. If Sporillium is the refined mixture of all six spices, well, I suppose any energy source that can propel starships at rapid interstellar speeds would be pretty impressive. Less effective forms could presumably be synthesised without requiring all six spices, otherwise many civilisations wouldn't be able to use FTL travel until they have an interstellar empire spanning several star systems. Maybe it's possible, but very expensive, to convert one from of spice to another. From that idea, white spice could be a special form of spice that is useless on its own, but can be converted into any other spice colour relatively easily/efficiently.
