Childhood Heroes and obsessions Empty Childhood Heroes and obsessions

Post by LordRemington Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:41 am

I was just curious as I looked through some pictures of me from my childhood, I remembered how obsessed I used to be with Thomas The tank engine.

Most have someone they idolize when they are little, so what were or possibly still are yours? Now they don't have to be superheroes like superman or batman, just any character or person from you childhood you idolized and loved.. Also did you own any action figures or other products of your heroes? e.g blankets, pillows, curtains, and whatnot

I had a bunch when I was a chillin. My first obsession was with Big Bird. I had a big bird stuff animal and wouldn't go to sleep without it. After I got bored with Big Bird I moved onto The Count, something about his Transylvania accent highly amused my toddler mind.

But my first big obession was with Barney the Dinosaur. I loved barney so much. I had barney pillow cases, Barney blankets, Barney curtains, Barney toys. everything Barney. In my mind, he as the bomb. this obsession lasted for about 2 years.

It was once we moved to a farm that I gained a new hero. Thomas The Tank Engine. I started watching the show, and thought he was the coolest thing ever. so I got a bunch of Thomas the Tank engine toys, and blankets and pillow cases and a Thomas the Tank Engine Flashlight, which would shine and image of his face where you pointed it. when ever I felt scared at night, I would always feel safe again if I had my Thomas flashlight. I also had the Thomas the Tank Engine game on my NES, but i can't remember much of it.

But once again this passed and I moved onto superheroes. My first superhero hero was Batman. Unfortunately I was a stupid kid so For roughly 9 months I thought his name was "fatman" not "batman", so I would run around with a blanket as a cape saying "I AM THE FATMAN!!!".

The final heroes I had before growing up to the stage where I didn't like superheroes anymore was when I moved back to the united states. You may not know who they are, but actually the are both sort of villans. I became obsessed with Spawn and Venom from spiderman. I just thought they were so cool. I had Spawn and Venom T-shirts as well as a bunch of action figures. I would have them duel Viking

And then after that, that was pretty much it, I stopped idolizing characters. I was obsessed with pokemon for a while, but I didn't idolize Ash Catchem' , I thought Pikachu was the bomb though.

So who were you obsessed with as a child? Who were you childhood heroes? and what did you have to show your obsession of them?

I was obsessed with Dumbo.

Every morning starting at exactly 4:30 PM, I would wake up and put it in the VCR, and just sit there for the rest of the day. You want to block my way, and I had to watch every single second of it, even up to the end of the credits. I think I even memorized all the names Laughing I think I broke our VCR rewinding it so many times. Razz

OMG, me too.

I didn't really have childhood heros as far as I remember, I just remember the things I watched or played with the most. Matchbox, Transformers and He-Man were a few of those.

When we lived in Connecticut, my sister and I would every Saturday and Sunday morning, before our parents woke up, have the traditional milk and cookies while watching the usual morning cartoons. It was a typical American 80s childhood.

Funnily enough, this tradition carried over after we moved back to Switzerland, just not as frequently since the programs were slightly different, and as we grew older our priorities changed.

Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends are about the only heroes I like. I tend to root for the villains nowadays, I like a well written villain. Ganondorf is just awesome, CD-i interpretation notwithstanding.

I'm still obsessed with Pokemon, Digimon, Disney, Starwars and other Fantasy/sci-fi stuff ever since I was a little kid. I used to like Seasame street, The Muppets and other shows I used to watch as a little one. I remember I had a poke shirt once but it got thrown away when it became too small for me.

Back when I was little I used to get up at 3 in the morning EVERY morning to watch The Lion King. I ruined 2 video tapes of it because i watched it so much (and it's still my favorite movie ever).

I also use to be obsessed with Pokemon back in the day along with Lego's.
