Obsessions, compulsions and habits
Do you have anything you are obsessed about or have been obsessed about in past? Could be anything, TV shows, video games, books, sports, history etc.
And do you do anything that you feel compelled to do or something that you do out of habit, maybe without realizing most times? Something you might be a bit OCD about?
For myself, my obsessions past and present:
Scrubs- in my opinion one of the funniest shows of all time. I've watched every episode atleast 6 times, I have all the seasons on dvd and no matter how many times I watch it, it is always as hilarious to me as the first time I watched it.
Dragonball Z- A past obsession. both me and my brother were obsessed with dragonball z at one point, my brother still somewhat is. Even though there is a ridiculous amount of DBZ episodes, I've watched all of them multiple times.
My brothers obsession with DBZ definitely outweighed mine as he bought the entire DBZ series. A set of 10 dvd boxes each with at least 3 dvds in each one, costing a grand total of $650. Plus the Dragonball GT dvds which cost him another $200 I believe.
Neverwinter Nights- I'd have to say out of all the games I've played in past I have definitely wasted the most time in the Neverwinter nights games. I own both the original Neverwinter nights with all the expansions as well as Neverwinter nights 2 with all the expansions.
I won't hazard a guess as to how many I hours over the years I've played it, but I'd say days upon days upon days of total time I put into it. I haven't played it in a while but I was extremely addicted to it at one point.
My past and present compulsions and habits:
Fiddling with my hair- Its pretty much something I've done ever since I started liking having longer hair. I can't really go more than a minute without doing something to my hair. A lot of times I'm unconscious to the fact I'm doing it. I just can't stop
Mouth Twitching- I don't have any neurological problems, but I have a habit of twitching my mouth a lot. I do it often to the point people notice and ask whether I have turrets or something. But its something I have control over if I think about it. I tend to do it more when I feel embarrassed or nervous.
Rubbing my nose- Something I've only really picked up on recently about myself. When I smell something unusual I tend to put the palm of my hand on the tip of my nose and rub it quickly, only for a second or two. Maybe its my way of dealing with weird smells but I also tend to do it when I hear something cringe worthy or disturbing. Dunno why.
Random noises- I tend to make random little noise. Not words or anything loud, just subtle noises. Sometimes the noises I make are fairly squeaky, quoting a friend who picked up on it once "I sounded like a guinea pig". Again something I just tend to do, but something I have control over when someone points out I'm doing it.
I probably have a lot others that I can't think or just aren't noticing now.
But what are your obsessions, compulsions and habits?

Haha, I lol'ed at the random noises. I tend to do that, I kind of assign a noise to objects, like making a tea or somthing the sugar and teabags all have their own noises. Like you I don't tend to notic untill someone points it out.
I also have an odd obsession with putting things in colour order, like in my bathroom all the stuff on the shelf is lined up with red at one end and blue at the other, so it goes like a gradient. Still do not know why I do that!
Obsessions with games and TV, well tv I don't watch all that often. I have an odd relationship with spore in that I have phases of obsesssion and ignoring it although I doubt I'll ever go off it completley and I am obsessed with Monster Hunter, if you know what that is? It's not very well known in europe... that's about it for games and TV and all that.

Bécassine, a French comic character, does the exact same thing with everything in the house. She would always sort everything by color even if it didn't fit at all, like a red bowl of tomatos, red towels and a few bottles of red wine.Red-Indigo wrote:I also have an odd obsession with putting things in colour order, like in my bathroom all the stuff on the shelf is lined up with red at one end and blue at the other, so it goes like a gradient. I used to have the compulsion of moving my eyes along the shape of an (edgy) object in the beat of a recent song I've heard. I usually did that while waiting for the bus or train or when I was bored sitting around. However, I don't do that anymore.
I'm also a bit OCD when it comes to software updates. Every bit of software I use I have to check for the newest updates. I even do that on other people's computers, if I get the chance. I can't stand it if someone doesn't use the most recent version of their OS or software and then keeps complaining about bugs and glitches... well, duh!

Lol! I don't think I'd go that far. Although it'd make for some interesting photogaphy.
I'm the total opposite when it comes to software updates, I usually always ignore them untill Im ready to do it in one big load.

Obsessions
Prehistoric Life - I have always been interested in this, for several reason. Like most children I went through a phase of loving dinosaurs, I just never really grew out of it. My fave film is Jurassic Park, not because of the dinos, btw, but the effects and for a macabre reason, I am more interested in things no longer alive.
QI - Stephen Fry is my "God" (as it were). With the exception of the episode with Julian Clary (who I cannot stand) the episodes are full of win. I will watch the same episode over and over again.
Blackadder/Red Dwarf - I have watched every episode at least 50 times each, both passively and aggressively (i.e. watching it and paying attention). Hilarity and wit, slapstick and good old fashioned rudeness.
Pro Evolution Soccer/Championship Manager - Both these games include rolling stats about your play. That is never a good idea. I have wasted months of my life playing these games.
Compulsions
Twitching Leg - When sat down without my legs crossed, after a while my leg will start twitching, sometimes voluntary, sometimes I just feel the urge to do it and succumb to the temptation.
Patrolling - I feel the urge to walk around my lounge when watching telly sometimes. I will walk back and forth as if patrolling the entrance to a Military Installation.

Pat don't ask me why, but when I saw this one, for some reason I saw "patrolling" as two words "pat" "rolling" and then I imagined it was your version of rick rolling, then imagined the music video with you in place of that Rick guy.
Right well I forgot to mention these two.
Teeth chattering- Every now and then I'll just shut my teeth together. Like everything else its not something I notice I do.
Dripping water drives me insane- I cant's go to sleep and can't fight the urge to stop dripping noises and the slower the drip, the worse it is. I've tried to sleep through hearing a drip noise, but always toss and turn until I eventually get up and search the house, looking for the source of my annoyance.
Re: Obsessions, compulsions and habits
Hehe, I do patrol from room to room as well but only when I brainstorm.

An odd one that gets me is the sound of a broom on paving stones - the sound grates right through me and sends shivers up my spine.

Nails scratching on rocks or being filed can do that to me.

I fully understand that one! We have an avid gardner next door to us and he for some reason sweeps his patio before work. It really annoys me in the morning.

Re: Obsessions, compulsions and habits
The sound of people touching Styrofoam. It sends shivers up my spine and I hate it.
A habit I have is like some said, playing with my hair, playing with my hands, cracking my knuckles, and trying to stand up straighter.
I always feel like I have terrible posture when I'm standing up.
But I can slouch and lounge all over a chair and not realize it.
Oh, and when I play guitar, I always stick my tongue out.
Not like Gene Simmons kind of thing, but just visible.
I don't even realize I do it until someone tells me.

Re: Obsessions, compulsions and habits
I am the same with stance as you, horm, I always feel like I am sliuching when walking or standing. i then try and stand straighter and there is no difference in how I feel, and seemingly no effect physically
However, on a chair I can assume almost any position and not care. Unless of course I am sitting normally, then my leg twitches as stated earlier.

I sometimes unknowingly play with my hair for no reason at all. I'm not sure why.

Re: Obsessions, compulsions and habits
I have a habit of drumming my hands, fingers or feet in rhythm to whatever song that happens to be stuck in my head that day. I usually don't notice it until after a while, but luckily I do it subtly enough for nobody to really notice. It's typically when said body parts are idle, or I'm just trying to make time pass while waiting.

Same its piercing.
I somehow forgot this one.
I don't know why, but certain combination of words or individual words make me shiver and squirm. I don't know what irritates me so, but they do. I can't think many off hand, but one that makes me squirm is number crunch. It doesn't work if someone is intentionally saying it to me to bug me, but if they are using it in a sentence it just makes me feel weird.
Don't know why.

Yep, I mentioned this one earlier as Shaking leg. I think it is a rather common thing in males, actually. No idea why.

I chew on straws.. and I shiver up whenever I hear Styrofoam crack up.
Two main things, kinda odd.
