Planet Map Creator?

For the longest time, I've been looking for a program that lets me create a professional map from a custom made planet. Despite the ability to customize planets in some way, Spore doesn't really do maps and is otherwise limited in that area.

My question now is, is there a program - hopefully Mac-friendly - that allows me to paint a planet and generate a map from? I'm reviving some older projects and for that I have a couple of maps I need to remake professionally.

Try sending a PM to MaxisCactus? She released the Earth-template a while back on her profile. I doubt you get an answer, but I'm sure she knows how to do such things.

I think Maxis used their own program that would be too complicated for a layman like me. What we got with the planet editor is like a watered down version that requires less than average stamping skills with its own limitations.

I think there aren't any such programs, or at least none that work for Spore. It's much easier to make a map first, and then make the planet in 3d. I did that with some of my planet templates.
