Cassie is a great source of inspiration. Another one you should look at is Puglin, he also makes great realistic creatures.

I agree with the going out of your comfort zone thing. It does work. I used to only make creatures, then I tried making buildings. I enjoyed making them and then moved on to making different kinds of buildings like realistic, fantasy, landscapes, animals, and then pictures. Who knows maybe I'll try out the spaceship editor some more. Well when I actually sit down and start creating again.

I really don't like the idea of not using knurls on the head, it looks so empty without them

Use a limb for spode's sake! Try other things out! Use a horrorlump! I don't know, get inventive!

I use all sorts of things on the head. Horns, knurls, heycorns, other armor plating, feathers, fins, limbs, spikes, horrolumps, adoravisors.... I don't think I have not tried each part at least once. One of the scickle type strike weapons is awesome for making crests btw.

It doesn't, most of my raptor heads are the same or similar. I think he is more referring to heads that have been customised... at least I hope he is.
