When restoring your OS back up 'everything'
After screwing up my admin account I inadvertently blanked out my preferences including my access to the various games installed.
Lesson #1: Don't screw with the admin account!
I backed up all my personal files, documents, videos, songs and what have you, erased the hard-drive and did a complete re-install of the OS. It didn't even take that long and getting my preferred applications wasn't time-consuming either. Even the file transfer was fun and I only had to get back what I was currently working on or using anyway.
I got almost everything back to where I wanted it and even had the patience to re-install and re-pollinate Spore. Five minutes ago, I wanted to send a quick mail to a friend and after I wrote it I realized:
Lesson #2: Don't forget backing up your address book!
