I also noticed, some of the newer reports I've seen are now saying the magnitude was at 9.

In other words assumptions should not be made as it is not always what is. They can be very wrong sometimes.

I saw that too, I know 8.9 is VERY CLOSE to 9, but in Seismological terms, there is quite a difference. Force 8 Earthquakes are 10x less powerful than a force 9.

Hence we call them assumptions, something that is accepted as true or as certain to happen until proven otherwise.

I just heard reactor #2 is back in action and they've rescued a grandmother and her grandson from the ruins of the tsunami.
