Injuries, illness, near death experiences... etc

Post by Mudo on Wed Mar 31, 2010 7:40 am

Ever been in a sticky situation? I'm sure at least a few of us have. So post your stories about times you have been inches from death, mutilation, or horrible pain here!

Sorry, this isn't really a sport, but it fits here better than anywhere else. Surprised

Survival is the sport of all living things.

well, my near death experiance, theres been a few actually, but the most recent was when I pulled down the christmas decorations box in my garage and some idiot had left an axe on the top. Along with several water guns. Me being short and pulling the box down from above got hit with the water guns first.

Probably lucky thing too as if I hadnt, I wouldnt have pulled in my head and the the axe would have hit me rather than the floor. Hmm. Was not happy Laughing

Here, I'll post one to get any/everybody started...

Okay, so I'm a hiker. I decided to go on a major trip out into the New Mexican wilderness. It was supposed to be a two week trip, but I almost ended up there for a lifetime! xD

I rather stupidly ignored the advice to leave my water bottle outside the tent, in a bear bag. (Because there were bears here, duh.) And low and behold, WE HAD A BEAR! I was asleep when it came into camp, tenting with my Father at the time. I woke up from hearing loud breathing noises, and in a daze, I asked what was going on.

My Dad replied, "Nothing, go back to sleep." Which seems really silly now, because he looked scared to death, and had his knife drawn. But I'm REALLY stOOpid when I first wake up, and I bought it all. Then I fell back asleep, with a huge brown bear sniffing around for my water bottle. (Bears have extremely sensitive noses)

Next morning, we saw just how big the bear was. about the size of a small car! O_o Moral: Do what the rangers tell you to, and don't sleep as deeply as Mudo. Very Happy

Re: Injuries, illness, near death experiences... etc

Post by Xaesheir on Wed Mar 31, 2010 7:52 am

Just told a couple of people in the Chatbox about my solo climb which nearly killed me.

I was about 7m off the ground on a 10m climb in Sanage edge. Me and two friends were doing solo's so we decided to try this particular route (graded a VS, so we though we'd have no problems). So friend of mine climbed up first, doing it absolutly fine. It was my turn and I shot up the first 5m. I had trouble reaching a key grip of the climb, since I was shorter than the other two, so I had to use the cracks around the side of it, veering slightly off the route. I managed to get the grip in the end and secure my right hand deep inside of it. I positioned my feet (in climbing shoes) on a tip-toe so I could get a slight height boost to the next hold.
The rock where my feet were crumbled away at the nose of the climb. I lost my footing and I thought I was going to fall. My hand amazingly though, kept grip. Three fingers were supporting my whole body weight and if i let go, I would of fell about 7m to the ground onto solid rock arranged into some not so nice positions. I regained my footing after about half a minute of slight panicment and finished the rest of the climb off.

Haven't done dangerously risky solo's since (but I still do them Razz )

Ouch! D:

Hmm... split my skull open when I was 5. Still have a scar on my face to show it >_> Also had a really unusual pain in my hip which caused me to be immoble up to 2 weeks twice. My sister 'stabbed' me with a metal pole thingie, and even now when I move my hand, I can still feel a bit of it inside my hand. Gone through phases where I eat almost nothing, probably similiar to anoerixa... not sure how you spell it. That's all I can remember at the moment.

Yarr. It hurt at the time, now it just feels weird to have a little thing moving inside your hand, under a tiny scar :3

O.K where do I start. I've probably nearly been killed 6 times in my life. The Three that stand out the most are, when I was about 6 I was standing in a field where we had alot of horses. For some reason they started stampeding. I layed on the ground and somehow they all just managed to pass over me. Then when I was 12 a Triton (Beast of a ute) came about 2 inches from flattening me and also when I was twelve I was trying to cross a little crevas that was about only about 15 feet down. There as a log between the rock faces. As I crossed the log it broke. As I feel I was slammed between the two rock face, cutting my face and back

oh, I forgot one. Though not life threatening it did leave me with some permanent damage. I was 10 and riding my bike down a street very fast, the street was very steep too. There was a ditch in the road. I ran into it and went flying (literally) off the bike. I landed on the left side of my face and skidded for about 2 metres. Needless to say, I was cutt up severly. Though I don't have any scares from the accident, I do have slightly less feeling in the left side of body since then. Everything else is fine though

[Moved to topic to General Off-Topic]

OK, I have been in hospital for Stevens Johnson Syndrome 3 times, this an illness that as fatal to 15% of sufferers. I know one person who died of it.

I broke my right arm twice in six months, once Ifell downstairs, and then two girls fell on top of me. Second time I tripped over my dog whilst playing football.

I broke the same Metatarcel that David Beckham broke, three days before he did.

It seem as though you all almost have an unhealthy obsession with getting hurt...
Well me? Ive done a tone of stupid SPORE. Mostly on my own accord. Ive jumped off buildings (not really large ones obviously), rode bicycles into brick walls, do that thing with my knife where you have to try and get it in between your fingers and also decided it would be cool to stage dive right into the middle of a fight pit, with my bass...
However every single time ive came out unscathed... Weird really...
Oh and ive almost been shanked before... Yes i live in that kind of town...

I forgot my broken ankle from jumping downstairs in woolies.

I flew over the handlebars of my bike and crashed into a tree... ouch.

However, the jumping of buildings - mainly the garage - left me with no issues.
