Re: Discuss Gaming here
I read you can actually go back to a mission and continue in a sandbox-ish way.

That would be good if you can.
I like these sorts of games and I am considering getting From Dust but it reminds me a lot of the Black and White games and the thing that annoyed me with those was the forced level progression. Let me build an empire without a huge sucky whirly vortex goddamit!
Either way though, it looks like it could be innovative and fun. I agree with SJ that it looks like it has potential.

Anyone ever play the old Populous games? I've played Populous 2 in the past, and From Dust can't help but remind me of that.

Populous 3 is very similar to it, only you're making the shamaness alter the environment or cause disasters to progress her tribe.Jeff wrote:Anyone ever play the old Populous games? I've played Populous 2 in the past, and From Dust can't help but remind me of that.

where did you hear this?
They were planning on developing a new timesplitters years ago, but the company that made the timesplitters series went bust, and the company was sold off to another. And that company put the project on halt.
I really really hope they do make another timesplitters game. Easily one of my favourite fps series or just game series in general

I played the original populous, but cannot remember a single thing about it, since I have played so many games since - a good Maxis original too I believe.
Re: Discuss Gaming here
Nah, Populous (at least the third one) was by a studio called Bullfrog. Seems they went out of business and kinda vanished. Shame, since that game was greatVektrix wrote:Jeff wrote:Anyone ever play the old Populous games? I've played Populous 2 in the past, and From Dust can't help but remind me of that.

Really!?
Didn't bullfrog do the themepark game thing or somthing? I dunno I only remember it vaguely, but if they did, it makes sense. They are in the same vein.
I do hate the way EA kind of eat up indie devs though.
EDIT: Talking of EA eating up indie devs, I stumbled across this on the MC forum and thought it was relevant:

Good to him for saying no.

Re: Discuss Gaming here
Yeah, bullfrog made the theme park games. I still have the discs for theme park world and theme park inc somewhere. Good memories of my younger years.
Doesn't really suprise me that EA ate them up like a lot of smaller companies these days.
And I'm very glad Mojang basically said no.

Theme Park World and it's predecessor, Theme Park were awesome. Rollercoaster Tycoon of course has superceded it.
Didn't Bullfrog do mega-lo-mania too?

Re: Discuss Gaming here
Besides fiddeling around with G.A. and holiday matters, I've been playing these last days a very nice strategy game called "Grand Ages: Rome - Gold Edition".
It's a good and relaxed game that takes focus into building Roman cities and managing them throughout the different maps and completing several objectives, from starting up trade routes to razing barbarian villages. A lot of fun. ^^

Just finished the story mode of From Dust. It's very much like a light version of Black and White. It focuses on you manipulating the land in order for the indigenous people to survive and move to the next area.
There's a challenge mode as well. I haven't checked it out yet but so far I'm not that impressed, even with the bonus at the end.

Well with that, would you say Yay or Nay to buying it? I still haven't bought it, but had been considering it.
Re: Discuss Gaming here
For that price I say Yay. I expected a bit more but felt it was satisfactory with the challenges and gameplay so far. I just hope they can keep their promise of expanding it in the near future.

You, the breath, can grab earth, water or lava to shape the world in order to help the tribe build villages around totems, which unlock a special god power suitable to the area. There are up to four powers to be unlocked in each area:
You can jellyfy water (which is awesome), evaporate it or use an infinite supply of earth. The powers are limited, so use them at the right time.
At the end of the story...

I played for that, Andy. Quite liked it myself, I have to say. I've never played a 'God' game before, so it was quite new to me.
I'll certainly consider getting the full game. Especially if you get to create your own world post-story.

Definitely find a friend to play that with on split screen. Alone it can get a bit boring, but with a buddy it's one hell of an awesome experience.LoD wrote:Just got Borderlands. Man, this game has a lot of guns.

Re: Discuss Gaming here
Heroes of Might and Magic V is a very nice game. If you're familiar with the Heroes series, the combat style is similar, only much better - cooler graphics, animations, nice attacks, etc.
The story is being nice too. I would have actually prefered if you could select your own race, make your own character and play the campaign from then on but you have to follow the several campaign hero/race-stories by mission order, starting with humans. It's still being quite good. No complaints besides that. ;P
I also have its two expansions but haven't tried them yet. They do look nice though.

Second one is coming out next year and it looks amazing!
Sounds good too, Weapon companies now have more distinct looks to their guns and a special ability. A new class, an actual story, new vehicles.enemies. Oh man I cannot wait.

I got Driver San Francisco today and it's pretty awesome with the graphics and driving.
The multiplayer is epic too. It's just hard to make turns sometimes lol
