Lol, we should make one
Do you have any tips for a beginner in singleplayer i.e what to collect etc.? And what tools are useful?

My main skin from now on. A character with a question mark head.
@Marky
Told yah Alpha's different to classic!
Anyway, you'll want to gather logs from the trees and place them in a 2x2 grid in your inventory. Access your inventory with 'I'. Place the log on the grid at the top to the right of your character and take what is produced. It will produce wood. Keep getting until you finish a house. Then, get 4 wood blocks and place all of them filling up the 2x2 grid. This should create a workbench. Take the workbench and place the workbench in to your main inventory. Place the workbench on the ground, and right click. Here, there is a 3x3 grid. Arrange 6 wood blocks in a 2x3 rectangle and it'll create a door. Place the door at your house's entrance.
Useful tools are pickaxes, axes, shovels and swords. Pickaxes go through rock type items better, axes go through wood types better, shovels go through sand, soil and gravel better and swords kill monsters faster and helps destroy a few things. There are different types of these tools. Wood, cobblestone, iron, gold and diamond. Diamond is the strongest while wood is the weakest. Gold is the same as wood, only it looks better. Some things are indestructible unless the correct type of tool is used along with what it's made of. Bedrock which is at the bottom of every map however is indestructible with whatever tool.

Now, the second and third things you'll want, after the workbench, will be the furnace and the chest. The furnace is made in the workbench, and its 8 cobblestone blocks in a circle. Don't put one in the center. The chest is the same thing but made of planks. Two chests right next to each other make a large chest. Very helpful for valuable ores you don't want to endanger by keeping in your inventory. My favorite tools are the pickaxe and the axe. Axes because your most valuable resource in the whole game will be logs. And the pickaxe for obvious reasons. Due to me not hitting any diamond deposits big enough for tool-making, I use iron most of the time.
Armor is also a helpful staple if you keep your game on other than peaceful.

Also, make a cobblestone pickaxe to dig faster through stone and certain things like coal. You'll need coal to create torches which are useful at night. To make a torch you need to put 2 wood planks vertically in the inventory crafting grid. This creates 4 sticks. Place 1 stick at the bottom of the grid and 1 coal at the top. This creates 4 torches, I think.

Re: Minecraft Mods, Skins And Texture Packs
Minecraft, as one blogger put it, has made me afraid of the dark again.
I'm scared out of my life to dig into tunnels anymore. D:
And the unfortunate irony is that I have it on peaceful.

There's a mod that allows obsidian tools. I wish you didn't need a mod for obsidian tools.

Don't you need a diamond pickaxe for obsidian though? I have yet to find a 3rd block of diamond to make a pickaxe.

Re: Minecraft Mods, Skins And Texture Packs
I have that Obsidian Tools mod. It's durability and strength and such is between that of Iron and Diamond. So, Diamond would do you much better, especially since Obsidian takes 15 seconds to dig with a Diamond Pickaxe (50+ sec with anything else)

You'd think it'd be different, because it doesn't take that long to mine diamond.
Oh well.

Re: Minecraft Mods, Skins And Texture Packs
Obsidian is hard to get because it requires a diamond pickaxe. It's easy to make obsidian, just hard to mine it. And there is something called the ultimate fist which breaks ANY block in 1 hit. Except bedrock. Obsidian tools are sorta pointless, but they do come with some sort of hybrid of most of the tools (except sword).
Oh, and does anyone like my new skins? The gorilla one and the Anonymous one.

Look in caves and underground.MarkyDMan wrote:How do you get Iron? I can't find any
Take them to a forge to smelt them into Iron Ingots, so that they can be used.
You will need at least a Stone Pickaxe to collect them.

Re: Minecraft Mods, Skins And Texture Packs
You can also find redstone which is near lava deep underground.
Diamond is 0-10 layers above bedrock.
Slightly Modified Zombie Pigman
A slightly modified Zombie Pigman. The most notable change is the blood instead of that weird green.
Mad Scientist
Meh, best I could do.

Redstone is good for making circuits, triggers or mechanisms like a trap.

I guess. I have no need for it as of yet.
Is it possible to make it so a lever opens 4 doors at once? Because that would be helpful.
